Screen Shot 2014-05-20 at 07.18.17The Cycling Anthology has a new home. Founded by Lionel Birnie and Ellis Bacon in 2012, the first three volumes of the series were published by Lionel’s company Peloton Publishing.

But, having establishing the series as a home for brilliant, original writing about professional cycling it was time to take advantage of a fantastic opportunity to become part of a bigger picture.

We are delighted to say that volume four will be published by Yellow Jersey Press, part of the Random House Group, one of the largest publishers in the world.

As part of the agreement with Yellow Jersey Press, the first three volumes will be re-issued in early June, with new jackets, and ebooks will be available for the first time.

Don’t worry, nothing major is changing. We know our regular readers love the compact format, style and content of The Cycling Anthology. The series will remain a collectable, small-format paperback packed full of essays from the great writers you’ve come to expect.

We are delighted to team up with Yellow Jersey Press, a publisher of excellent cycling books. They bring their experience and expertise and give The Cycling Anthology a seal of approval.

Matt Phillips, Editorial Director of Yellow Jersey Press, said: ‘It was love at first sight. The Cycling Anthology represents the best writing on cycling. For us, that’s what we care about most. So, when the opportunity came to publish this wonderful collection of original essays, we grabbed hold of it with both hands.’

Co-editor Lionel Birnie said: ‘For Ellis and me, the priority was to preserve the best things about The Cycling Anthology – the quality of the writing, the neat format and the distinctive jackets – while allowing Yellow Jersey to help us to take the books to a bigger audience. Obviously Yellow Jersey wanted to put their stamp on things too but we were so happy that Simon Scarsbrook’s brilliant illustrations remain the focal point of the brand new jackets.

‘But when all is said and done, these are books designed to be read. We hope that as the collection grows the early editions will be as relevant in years to come as they are now. We hope they will be seen as snapshots in time, that the essays written in 2012 or 2013 will be read in a decade’s time and still give the reader an interesting perspective on events.’
